北海道浦河町「べてるの家」における「治療文化」に関する考察 : 「場所性」「歴史性」「周縁性」の観点から (1)

Abstract

北海道浦河町にある精神障害者施設「べてるの家」は、「弱さ」を克服し、「病気」を「治療」して「自立」し「社会復帰」しなければならないというこれまでの考え方に代わり、「降りていく生き方」「弱さを絆に」という新しい発想で運営されている「治療の場所」である。本論文ではこのような「場所」がなぜ生まれたのかという問題を、日本の近代化の歴史と「周縁性」という観点から明らかにする。北海道浦河町が置かれた歴史的・地理的・産業的な「周縁性」が、この「べてるの家」という「治療の場所」の形成の要因になっていることを明らかし、そのことが持っている意味について考察を行っていく。特にアイヌの人々と日本の近代化の歴史との関連でこの問題を明らかにしていきたい。論文では中井久夫氏の「治療文化」論のモデルを使い、「べてるの家」が、アイヌのシャーマンの「治療文化」、キリスト教の「治療文化」など幾つかの「治療文化」から構成されていることを明らかにする。

Bethel House, a welfare facility for people with mental illness in Urakawa, Hokkaido, is known throughout Japan for its unique approach to the treatment of mental illness. This paper makes clear the reason why Bethel House as a "place of treatment" was formed only in Urakawa, from the perspective of historicity and periphery and locality. On this point the modern history of the Ainu is especially important. This problem is also related to the problem of Japanese modernization. On this thesis, I make clear a treatment culture of Bethel House is influenced by shamanism of the Ainu, Christianity and the others based on Nakai Hisao's theory.
